CDL Practice Tests by State
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) sets minimum federal standards for the Commercial Driver's License, but each U.S. state runs its own knowledge and skills tests through its DMV (or DMV-equivalent agency). Pick your state below to see practice tests for every endorsement, plus a quick overview of how the CDL process works locally.
Why state-specific practice still matters
Although the underlying test questions are drawn from the AAMVA CDL Manual, every state customizes its license fees, knowledge-test scheduling, vehicle requirements for the road test, and ELDT enrollment process. Some states (for example, California, Texas, and Florida) issue their own state CDL Manual that re-publishes AAMVA content alongside state-specific rules — speed limits for commercial vehicles, chain-up regulations, idling laws, weight limits on certain corridors, and so on. Our state pages combine practice tests with a quick orientation to those local rules, so when you sit down at the DMV you are not surprised by a question that references a state code section.
What's covered on every state page
- Direct links to all available endorsement practice tests for that state
- A summary of the local CDL knowledge-exam scoring requirement (usually 80% across most states)
- Notes on what to bring to the DMV and the typical fee range
- Links to study guides for each endorsement category
